Prior Authorizations and Optimum Access to Medications

Excellence in medical care requires patient access to the best available medications. There is ongoing emergence of new, innovative topical, oral, injectable medications that have significantly transformed dermatology.  The ability to treat skin conditions previously thought to be untreatable with safe and efficacious drugs has never been better. Most of these new medications are very expensive and health insurance coverage is becoming more contingent on our office filing written prior authorizations.  It remains important for me to be up to date on immerging new therapies, but it is also important that patients have access to the medications.

Our office staff is committed to making the best and safest medication available to all our patients. This is a time consuming process involving our office staff, specialty pharmacy staff, and third party insurance payers working together. The prior authorization process can take a few days to several weeks. There is no additional patient billing done for these services.  When our patients are able to undergo state of the art, cutting edge therapy, resulting of superior treatment response, there is much satisfaction and gratification generated throughout our office. That is why we continue to do this.
